The word “follower” is often negative, but it doesn’t have to be. There’s nothing wrong with having a follower mindset if you’re in a situation where it makes sense or helps you get what you want out of life. But, there are some things to consider on the pros and cons of being a follower.
Having a follower mindset can put you at an advantage
Following someone else may be a good thing if you want to learn from them and use their expertise to your advantage.
Being a good follower also means being willing to work hard without complaining. Good followers know how important it is for their team leader that they show up and do their job well every day, so they don’t complain when things get tough or boring—they just get it done! This can often lead to team members or leaders recognizing your work ethic and putting you in a better position for new leadership positions in the future.
But, having a follower mindset comes with some downfalls as well, such as not having total control over the situation. As a follower, you have to follow the leader’s plan and rules. You may not always be able to make decisions on your own or come up with creative solutions when things go awry, but that doesn’t mean your opinions or expertise will go unnoticed or unappreciated.
With a follower mindset, you’re safe because you don’t have to risk it all. You just have to go along with the plan.
Being a follower is safe. You don’t have to do the hard work of figuring out what to do next, putting in the effort to make it happen, or taking responsibility for making mistakes. Instead, you can just go along with whatever plan others have come up with—or at least that’s how other people see it!
But being a follower isn’t passive or unimportant. As a follower, you’re still part of the team and you still play an important role in making things happen—you just don’t have as much control over how they happen as those who are leading the way.
Followers are essential because they help provide support and guidance for the leaders on their teams; without followers, there would be no one left to follow!
Being a follower sometimes may make you feel left out, but you aren’t!
The reason why followers might feel left out is that they don’t get the credit for their work, don’t make critical decisions that affect the final outcome, and have a smaller role in the final product. If you’re a follower, it’s important to remember that not being able to lead doesn’t mean that you are not capable of leading!
