Spring cleaning should be an all-around clearing out of the things in your life that don’t bring you joy. We’re talking more than just throwing away old clothes, cleaning out closets, or shredding old papers. Spring is a season for rebirth, renewal, and growth! So, let’s talk about other areas in your life where you can declutter.
Reduce your stress.
April is Stress Awareness Month. This is a great time to genuinely reflect and do what you can to reduce or remove the stressors in your life. This may be a time to combat those things with meditation, exercise, or diet changes.
Go on a digital detox.
Yup, it’s time to reduce your screen time. Many smartphones have a built-in monitor that lets you know how much time you are actually spending on different apps on your phone throughout the day. Here are 11 apps that can help you monitor your screen time. Schedule some time to hit that “Do Not Disturb” button and step away from technology for a few hours at the beginning or end of the day.
Establish healthy boundaries.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed or burnt out, it may partially be due to the fact that you’re a people-pleaser. This is a time to reflect on just how much access you allow people to have to you. It’s time to set some boundaries. No, you don’t have to respond to that email right away. That text message can be answered a little later, and you’re allowed to let people know that they’re crossing those boundaries with you.
Practice meditation and mindfulness.
Tune into yourself for a few moments and release any negative emotions. Meditation doesn’t have to be an hour-long experience! Even if you just take a few minutes each day to clear your mind. The key to meditation is to acknowledge the thought then let it go. If you need to come back to it later, write it down and revisit it when you have a clearer mind.
Create room for new energy.
Remember we said that Spring is a season for rebirth and renewal? This is a time to allow new energy to flow into your life. Open up your windows and get some fresh air, try a new coat of paint, get some new artwork on your walls, or buy some house plants to welcome new, feel-good energy into your home or office. If you have an extra room in your home that’s not being used, try turning it into a intentional space where you can escape to, close the door, and spend time with yourself.
What will you do this season to do more for your Spring cleaning?
