Passion for Human Services
First, let me give you a glimpse into my life. As a Psychology Professor, I’m deeply passionate about human services. It’s the reason I chose to teach at a community college. My heart’s desire is to foster strong human connections and nurture a collaborative spirit among individuals. This passion led me to a journey filled with ups and downs, including a diagnosis that would forever change my life.
A Challenging Diagnosis
I was diagnosed in 2015 with a Ductal Carcinoma at an initial stage, and then in 2021, it had metastasized. Facing such a challenging diagnosis can be overwhelming, but it’s also an opportunity for personal growth and resilience.
The Wisdom of Resilience
The advice I wish I had known and would give to another woman facing this diagnosis is encapsulated in the words of a great Scholar, Imam Ali (A.S.), who wisely said, “Your remedy is within you, but you do not sense it. Your sickness is from you, but you do not perceive it.” When confronted with a challenging diagnosis, remember that your potential for healing and personal growth lies within.
Embrace this as an opportunity to discover resilience, self-awareness, empathy, and the courage to face life’s challenges with determination.
“Do not hate what you do not know…”
One of my favorite quotes I hold dear to my heart is: “Do not hate what you do not know, for the greater part of knowledge consists of what you do not know.” – Ali Ibn Abi Talib.
The Power of Photographs
I wanted to participate in the Breast Cancer Patient Giveback photoshoot with Felicia Reed because I greatly admire her extraordinary act of kindness. Felicia’s initiative provides a unique and empowering experience that many individuals, especially breast cancer patients, may not have had the chance to enjoy. Her photoshoots capture outer beauty and enhance the inner strength and beauty of the women involved.
Photos hold immense importance to me because they are lasting memories frozen in time. They are powerful reminders of the moments we cherish, the emotions we’ve felt, and the people we love. Participating in this photoshoot with Felicia is about capturing a moment in my life, celebrating my strength and resilience, and sharing a message of hope and empowerment with others facing similar challenges. The photos become a source of inspiration and a testament to the beauty that can be found in even the most trying circumstances.
A Remarkable Experience with Felicia
Working with Felicia was an incredible experience. When my daughter and I arrived for the photoshoot, Felicia went above and beyond our expectations. She offered us a special mother-daughter shoot, arranged for a talented makeup artist, and provided beautiful dresses for both of us.
Throughout the photoshoot, Felicia’s guidance and enthusiasm made the experience truly memorable. Her vibrant spirit and warmth put us at ease, creating a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. My daughter and I were overwhelmed with gratitude for Felicia’s kind and thoughtful gesture.
A Spiritual Dimension: A Prayer Session
Felicia arranged a prayer session for us in a separate room. This additional aspect of the experience added a profound spiritual dimension to the day, allowing us to find solace, support, and strength in our faith. Felicia’s act of kindness and the inclusion of the prayer session left a lasting impression on our hearts, and we deeply appreciate the opportunity to work with her.
Cherished Moments with My Daughter
If I had to pick a favorite photo from the shoot, I’d say it’s hard to decide because all the pictures with my daughter hold a special place in my heart.
Changing the Way I See Myself
I’ve developed a deeper sense of gratitude for the little moments in life and for the people who make a difference. Felicia’s act of kindness has reinforced the importance of gratitude in my life. This experience has inspired me to pay it forward, to be a source of support and encouragement for others facing challenges. It has ignited a desire to spread kindness and empowerment in my own way.
Empowering Women Facing Adversity
In the face of adversity, my advice to other women would be to keep things in perspective. Adversity is a part of life but should never be seen as a definition of who you are. It’s a moment in time, a challenge to be overcome, but it doesn’t have to shape your identity or determine your future.
Furthermore, consider the remarkable power of giving back and helping others facing their trials. By extending a hand to those in need, you provide support and inspiration and discover your inner strength and resilience. This act of kindness not only uplifts others but also empowers you to rise above adversity and make a positive impact on the world.
