As a Director and Project Manager, my life has always been about managing deadlines, budgets, and teams. But, as I stood before the camera for this photoshoot, I reflected on the journey that brought me here. This photoshoot represents more than just a moment in time; it’s a testament to my resilience and the lessons life has bestowed upon me, both in business and life.
Every day is a gift
I’m a cancer survivor. Every day I wake up is a gift, a second chance to embrace life in all its complexity. My youth has faded, but in its place are lines etched with experience and a heart that has weathered life’s storms. This photoshoot is a visual legacy I want to leave for my children. It’s a reminder to love yourself first, fight the good fight, and ultimately count your blessings. After all, beauty may be transitory, but a beautiful soul is ageless.
Influences
If I were to pinpoint the most influential person in my life, it would undoubtedly be my father. He instilled in me the power of determination, strength, and resilience. His love, support, and encouragement were the building blocks of my character. He reminded me that I can be the best version of myself, no matter the circumstances.
I’m Irreplaceable
Reflecting on my life’s journey, I take pride in my accomplishments. Among them, being a good mother and wife stands above the rest. I’ve learned that I may be replaceable in other aspects of my life that once defined me – a City Council member, a high-tech manager, an entrepreneur. But at home, I am irreplaceable, and that is where my real life resides.
My favorite things
Now, if you’re curious about my favorite beauty secrets, they’re simple – diligent skincare and sunscreen. Forgetting these in your youth will undoubtedly haunt you in your thirties and forties.
When I dream of traveling anywhere, my heart longs for the charming streets of Spain and Italy. I envision exploring medieval towns, admiring soaring cathedrals, and basking in the grandeur of castles and mansions.
To my younger self…
If I could offer wisdom to my younger self, I’d say this, “Stand up to every Goliath and hold on to your truth and integrity. Be fearless, brave, and bold. Be a force to be reckoned with.”
My happy place
Perfect happiness, for me, is found in the simplest pleasures – a perfect rose from my garden, the coral hues of an autumn sunset, the sound of my children’s laughter, and a fabulous Cabernet after a long day. These are the moments that shift my mindset from despair to hope, from anger to peace, and from needless expectations to gratitude for what I already have.
Valuable Lessons & super powers
In my eyes, life’s most valuable lesson is to prove the skeptics and doubters wrong. Show through actions, not just empty words. Learn, fail, get up, and do it all over again. Don’t let the naysayers stifle your spirit; let them fuel your determination.
If I were to possess a superpower, it would be to emulate Beth Dutton, a woman who is unafraid of anything or anyone. I want that superpower – a force to be reckoned with in my words and deeds and a ruthless determination to stand up for those who can’t speak or fight for themselves.
Before I go…
As we conclude this journey through my life and thoughts, I’ll leave you with a favorite quote that resonates deeply with me: “Don’t hang on, nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky. It slips away, and all your money won’t a minute buy. Dust in the wind. All we are is dust in the wind. – Kansas “Dust in the Wind”
Lastly, you asked about my favorite features about myself – my skin, my hair, and my legs. But what I’m most nervous about concerning this photoshoot is the vision in my head versus the outcome.
These photos capture the essence of who I am today: a survivor, a mother, a woman who’s learned that beauty is far more than skin deep. I’m embracing the beauty of imperfection and the wisdom of life’s journey.
