Stage 2b Triple Negative Breast Cancer
I am a mother and a Consumer Experience Designer for Memorial Hermann Health System. Creativity is my passion, which has always driven me personally and professionally. But life threw a curveball at me in June 2023 when I was diagnosed with Stage 2b Triple Negative Breast Cancer.
Always get a second opinion
If there’s one piece of advice I wish I had known earlier and want to share with all women in this situation, it’s this: Always get a second opinion. Don’t let doubt linger; never dismiss your symptoms or potential health issues. Your health is invaluable; seeking multiple perspectives can make all the difference in your treatment and outlook.
Grace is incredible
One saying that has carried me through these challenging times is, “Give yourself grace.” It’s a reminder that we are all human and should be kind and patient with ourselves, especially when faced with adversity.
Why did I want to participate?
Well, this journey has been a unique and transformative one for me. I underwent chemotherapy while pregnant with my second child, and I needed to capture this moment in my life as a symbol of strength rather than succumbing to feelings of despair.
Working with Felicia was nothing short of empowering. In a world where I often felt tired and overwhelmed, her expertise and encouragement helped me embrace and celebrate my body again. My favorite photo from the shoot is the one where I’m standing tall and bald, radiating resilience and strength.
Stand tall and love yourself
This experience with Felicia Reed has undeniably altered the way I see myself. I now stand taller, both physically and metaphorically. I’ve learned to love and empower myself, and I want to share this message with other women facing adversity.
Forgive yourself, love yourself, and empower yourself. You are stronger than you realize. Remember, there is grace in every step of your journey, and you are not alone. We can conquer whatever life throws our way!
About the Breast Cancer Giveback Experience with Felicia Reed
Each year, I give back to the local Breast Cancer Resource Center of Central Texas. I have the nonprofit choose the women who will participate, and I bring together a team that pampers them and create legacy photos for them and their family. The majority of these women have Metastatic Breast Cancer. Which means they are living with it for the rest of their lives. I am honored to be a part of their journey. Today, we’re celebrating Christy!
