Choosing to have this photoshoot marked a significant hello to my 50s. It was an opportunity to embrace this new chapter in both my personal and professional life. The shoot served as a means to see myself from a different perspective, and, most importantly, I finally felt brave enough to do so.
The most influential person in my life has been Dr. Harris, my college English professor. She introduced me to the world of Black/African American literature, expanding my curiosity through authors like bell hooks. I’ve accomplished career changes, demonstrating resilience and adaptability. Maintaining stability and successfully navigating various professional transitions are achievements I hold dear. The wisdom I would share with my younger self echoes my grandmother’s words: “You, sweet girl, don’t have to fight so hard for EVERYTHING.”
If I could travel anywhere in the world, Zanzibar, specifically the “Spice Islands” of Unjuga, would be my dream destination.
My idea of perfect happiness is found in the presence of God, beside a flowing body of water, which brings me profound joy. If I had a superpower, it would be the ability to time travel, allowing me to explore different eras and gain wisdom from the past.
Having overcome hardships, the perspective I’ve gained is the realization that I can do hard things. This lesson is a testament to my strength and resilience, and I believe it can inspire and help others facing challenges.
