It was an absolute honor to be captured by the talented photographer Felicia Reed. These photos are more than just images; they represent the joy I genuinely feel at this point in my life. Five years ago, I was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer and given a mere 15% chance of making it to five years. Against the odds, I am here, still fighting and cherishing the blessings surrounding me – my children, grandchildren, beloved husband, and circle of family and friends.
The most influential person in my life was my father. Despite his stern demeanor, his high expectations fueled my determination and success. His memory and expectations continue to guide me through challenging times.
My most cherished accomplishment is my daughters. They are my life, my best friends, and my greatest joy. Their intelligence, success, and care for their proud mom fill me with tears of pride and gratitude. My grandchildren, Jazzie, Trey, and Silas, are the beautiful gifts I receive in return.
If I could travel anywhere, Rome, Italy, would be my dream destination. Currently here, surrounded by rich history, I am humbled and grateful. Next on my list would be New Zealand for its diverse landscapes and unique fauna.
Wisdom for my younger self: Don’t fret. It will all work out. Just keep going! Life’s lessons have taught me that nothing really matters at the end of the day. Tomorrow is a new day, and what happened yesterday is past. Others’ opinions do not concern me.
