Sometimes, the lessons we most need to learn enter our lives in disguised ways. This week, we chatted with Rachel Sanborn, who needed a branding photoshoot for her blossoming skincare and makeup biz. Little did she know that by stepping in front of the camera, she’d be stepping into the role of her own clients.
Why did you want a photoshoot?
I started a virtual skincare & makeup beauty business in March of 2020 and wanted some branding photos with someone who really celebrated women in the way they were being photographed. I wanted to look and feel like me, but more confident.
What drew you to Felicia Reed Photography?
I found her on IG as a recommended account to follow for a woman owned black business in the area and fell in love with her photos! Just blew my mind!
What was the experience like?
From the very beginning of talking to Felicia I felt a kindred spirit with her. Her light is so big, her heart is so big and she is all about making you feel comfortable and understood. It was a beautiful and fun experience. Marisa, the makeup artist, was so down to earth and incredibly talented, we laughed, we danced and they made me feel so incredible.
What was your favorite photo?
Hard to pick just one. I like the shot of me in black, with my body angled. I feel like my face looks very relaxed and approachable, very confident.
How has the experience with her changed the way you see yourself?
I felt like uh uh, I am fierce! I am very comfortable in the role of helping others see themselves in a beautiful way, it was really good to have a taste of my own medicine!
What advice would you give other women?
There is only one of you in the world! God creates all us uniquely and beautifully. Be open to the gift of having others allow you to see yourself in a new and unique way. To have a professional hear you, understand you, and help you to look & feel beautiful is such an incredible gift.. Also, having portraits done by Felicia is the best gift of self-love you can give yourself! I promise!
